Our Process

At Weldon Stone, our process combines traditional expertise with modern professionalism. From your first site survey to installation and aftercare, we manage each step with clarity, accuracy, and respect for your building.

Site Survey, Design & Consultation

Understanding your site, your building, and your objectives - before a single stone is cut.

01

Initial Enquiry & Site Assessment

Following your enquiry, we arrange a free site survey to understand the environment, assess the condition and age of the building, and determine the nature of the work - whether restoration, conservation, or new masonry.

During this visit, we take measurements, review previous repairs, and assess access or scaffolding requirements. From this, we prepare a clear, detailed quotation.

Your quotation is issued via our secure digital system, allowing you to review and approve it online. Once accepted, we formalise the project scope, timeline, and billing structure.

At this stage, we’ll schedule a more detailed site visit if required - particularly for projects that involve complex detailing or working at height.

Quotation & Scope Confirmation

03

Detailed Survey & Stone Assessment

A second, technical site survey is carried out to capture precise measurements for templating and stone matching.

We bring stone samples to compare colour, porosity, and weathering against the existing fabric, helping determine the best geological and visual match - even when the original quarry is no longer active. This visit also informs our CAD working drawings, which form the technical foundation for fabrication.

Design, Sourcing & Fabrication

Blending traditional craft with modern precision to shape every stone with purpose.

01

Stone Selection & Sourcing

Using insights from the site surveys, our team selects or sources the right stone, often from our in-house stock of regional materials or, when needed, from specialist quarries.

We prioritise local and geologically compatible stone, assessing colour, texture, and durability to ensure a true match.

Our draftsman produces highly accurate CAD drawings and cutting sheets based on site measurements. These guide the sawing and shaping process, whether handled by our precision saws for repeat items or by hand for intricate, unique features.

All pieces are inspected, measured, and quality-checked throughout production.

From delivery to completion, our craftsmanship continues on site - ensuring lasting quality and care.

Our initial site survey is free of charge. It allows us to assess your building, understand the scope of work, and provide an accurate quotation. For larger or more complex projects, a second detailed survey may be arranged once the quote is accepted. This work will be included in the quote.

Project timelines vary depending on the scale, complexity, and type of stonework required. After the quotation is accepted, we’ll provide a clear schedule that outlines each stage - from stone sourcing and fabrication to installation - so you know exactly what to expect.

Yes. Weldon Stone can act as either a subcontractor or main contractor. We can organise scaffolding and coordinate with other trades using our trusted partners, or work alongside your existing local contractors if preferred. We can also offer advice and guidance for planning applications.

We believe in clear, consistent communication. You’ll receive updates at key milestones - from stone selection to installation - and we’re always available for questions or site meetings. Transparency is central to how we work.

Because stone is a natural material, formal guarantees aren’t typically offered for day-to-day projects. However, every piece of work is completed to the highest standards, checked on site before completion, and built to stand the test of time. Specific requests and rectification periods can be accommodated and will be included in the documentation we provide.
